Parent Education Night: How to Raise an Adult

Fort Collins Montessori School • Sep 27, 2019

The September Parent Education Night was wonderfully attended and we’d like to thank Sue Schneider for sharing a handful of practical tips for living and parenting more mindfully.

Visiting Fort Collins Montessori School in October will be  Tobin Munsat —physics professor and director of graduate studies in the physics department at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Tobin’s daughter is now in her sixth and final year at Mountain Shadows Montessori in Boulder, having started at Bloom Montessori in Longmont at the age of 2.

We look forward to Tobin sharing his perspective on Montessori approaches and how they have affected the growth of his own daughter, but also in the context of raising children with an eye on the future adult. In particular, he will discuss how such schooling approaches affect students later in their educational life, including college and even graduate school. The discussion will be based on his own experiences, and also references such as  How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success by Julie Lythcott-Haims, dean of undergraduate advising at Stanford University.
